How to apply
Applications for pupillage must be made through the Pupillage Gateway, the Bar Council’s online pupillage application portal, which can be accessed here.
Please note that the recruitment cycle for pupillage commencing in October 2026 has now closed. This page will be updated once the recruitment timetable for pupillage commencing October 2027 has been released by the Bar Council.
When we consider whether to offer a tenancy in Chambers to our pupils, we consider whether a pupil has demonstrated a high standard in each of the following areas:
- has an excellent academic track record;
- can think fast and clearly; absorb complex information rapidly; and identify essential points and possible solutions in a practical and pragmatic manner;
- is able to communicate clearly, concisely and persuasively, both orally and in writing;
- is able to get on well with people from different backgrounds;
- is assertive when necessary, and is able to remain calm, objective and confident while working with complex material and against deadlines;
- is honest and reliable and has integrity; and
- demonstrates sound judgement.
We aim to offer pupillages to the applicants who demonstrate the most promise of being offered tenancy at the end of their pupillages by reference to these criteria.
We offer up to two 12-month pupillages each year.

"The work is rich and varied, and it is real: you can usually see its subject matter, whether that be an office block in the City of London, a windfarm, a canal towpath, a mansion in Belgravia, or a miner’s cottage in the Rhondda".Guy Fetherstonhaugh KC, Joint Head of Falcon Chambers.
