Judgment handed down in University of Cambridge v Persons Unknown

On 12 September 2025, Mr Justice Butcher handed down judgment in University of Cambridge v Persons Unknown [2025] EWHC 2330 (KB) in which Kester Lees KC (leading Yaaser Vanderman of Brick Court Chambers) acted for the University of Cambridge in securing a 12-month final injunction against protests at the Old Schools site, Senate House and Senate House Yard, and Greenwich House in Cambridge. This follows the earlier grant of a four month interim injunction which was due to expire imminently.

Kester was instructed by Samuel Maw and Chris Brand of Mills & Reeve LLP.

Kester previously acted for three Cambridge Colleges in their respective applications for interim and then final, injunctions in respect of related protests, including the judgment in Trinity College v Persons Unknown [2025] EWHC 1577 (Ch) on 23 June 2025.

Kester also acted, together with Taylor Briggs, for the University of London in its successful claims for a possession order and an interim injunction in respect of a similar protest encampment in University of London v Harvie-Clark & Ors [2024] EWHC 2895 (Ch); the matter is listed for trial in 2026.
